Looking for a job in academia? Taking part in a search committee? The interview process is often the final and most important part of the academic search process, for interviewers and interviewees alike. Applicants are hoping to get their dream job and institutions hope their top-pick will choose their school. Both sides bring different personalities and priorities to the table, and the etiquette of the process can have a major impact on the important decisions made afterward.

This week's Chronicle features a fantastic and detailed look at etiquette during the search process and afterward. It also provides great insight into some of the situations most academics face at some point in their careers, and guidelines on proper etiquette in each instance. Maybe you're thinking you have great etiquette, you don't need tips from Ms. Manners. We disagree. The Chronicle article might not tell you anything you didn't already know, but it brings up situations you might not even think that much about, and presents multiple perspectives to each. It makes you stop and think about your approach to your professional work and how you could be more effective in collaborating with colleagues or interviewing effectively.

So check it out. And let us know your thoughts. Have you encountered problems with poor etiquette during the interview/search process? Share your stories and how it was handled in the comments!
