You know you need a great web presence and that a professional portfolio can help your career skyrocket, but where to start? Fortunately Interfolio's Portfolio is designed to offer fast, easy and flexible ways to create a portfolio whether you have 5 minutes or 5 hours. Here are a few key things you can do to add substance to your portfolio in just 5 minutes.

Step 1: Add Your Photo

Adding your profile photo gives a glimpse of your personality and adds an element of uniqueness to your profile. It's also strategic because your photo shows up in many places. Because search engine results for your name will be closely linked to this photo, it will quickly become one of the most widely viewed photos of you on the web.

To add your photo, browse to your Profile (the home page of your Portfolio). Click the Edit tab at the top of the screen. You'll see the button to Upload your photo in the right column of the screen, browse to your photo and upload it there.

Step 2: Write a Portfolio Overview

The overview of your Portfolio receives prime positioning at the top of your Profile. It's an ideal place to give a quick summary of your career and interests and to lay the groundwork for introducing you and your portfolio to your readers.

To add your overview, browse to your Profile (the home page of your Portfolio). Click the Edit tab at the top of the screen. Under your name and title is your Overview. Click this area to begin editing it. Enter your overview, click Save, and you're done!

Step 3: Add Your Best Work

Start with one page which will be your "Portfolio Highlights". Try to find 2 or 3 samples of your very best work to add, and your Portfolio will gain a whole new dimension of sophistication. Later, as your Portfolio grows, you can reuse this content on other pages.

To create a page, browse to your Profile (the home page of your Portfolio). Click the Add a Page button under the Overview. Give the page a title that represents its contents, and a description that summarizes what you'll add to the page. These are important because they'll show up as the teaser for that page on your profile. Then choose one of the options from the Add Content toolbar -- such as a document, image or link -- to add your work to your page. Use the menu at the top of the screen to Preview and Publish your page, and your best work is now online!

Where to Go from Here

Now that your portfolio is built, start getting it some exposure! On the right side of your screen is the "Send To..." menu, which makes it easy to share your portfolio with friends and associates through several popular social networks and bookmarking sites. Go ahead and send a link to your profile to a few places, and your portfolio will instantly start gathering popularity.

There are many more things you can do to make your Portfolio great when you're ready to put a little more time into it. Watch this blog over the coming weeks as we dig deeper into the ideas we've discussed here.

It's much easier than I expected, I think I'll give it a try.
