A portfolio is an organized and comprehensive compilation of the most important documents in one's career. Online portfolios can summarize a person's experience in an easy-to-read electronic format that demonstrates the skills, education, professional development, and experiences that a candidate brings to a job or academic position.

Online portfolios are gaining recognition for their wide range of benefits including increased flexibility, ease of sharing, ability to update frequently, and the option to include multimedia components. Though online portfolios have been noted for their benefits to professors and adjuncts seeking new career opportunities, ePortfolios are also relevant to students. For example, electronic portfolios allow students applying to higher ed or jobs to show complete examples of their work beyond the realm of test scores and GPAs.

In the next few weeks, we'll address some of the important components academics and others can look to gather and include in these portfolios, so let us know your thoughts on what some of the key ingredients should be!
