Interfolio is a document management service that allows you to store, manage, and distribute your most important documents. The most typical Interfolio user manages documents that they need in support of applications to graduate study (including medical school), teaching positions, jobs in higher education, and other academic opportunities.
Create Your Account
The first step in the Interfolio process is to create your account. During this step you will set up your primary institution affiliation and pay the annual account fee ($15/one year). The annual account fee covers the document storage, scanning and uploading services, and unlimited customer support.
Manage Your Documents
Every file that you put into your Interfolio account is available online through your secure account. You can store any document that you need: letters of recommendations, transcripts, evaluations, and writing samples. You will have 24/7 access to these files. Your account allows for the storage of up to 250 MB of documents.
There are many ways to add documents to your account.
- You can upload documents from your computer into your account.
- You can mail hard copy documents to Interfolio and we will scan and upload them into your account.
- Your letter writers can submit confidential letters of recommendation (by electronic upload or by mail) on your behalf. (See more informaiton on Requesting Letters of Recommendation)
- You can have your registrar send us a copy of your transcript.
- You can have an existing credential file transfered to Interfolio.
Distribute Your Documents
Once you have collected your documents on line, you are ready to send them out. Interfolio allows you to send paper document packages via USPS first-class mail, USPS priority mail, 2-day tracked delivery, and overnight tracked delivery (express, tracked services provided by DHL). In addition, Interfolio offers various international delivery options including international overnight.
Interfolio also works in partnership with certain admissions offices and hiring managers so their applicants can transmit documents to them electronically. The majority of our current receiving institutions are medical schools – over 80 of the 125 allopathic schools use Interfolio to receive letters of recommendation -- however, we are adding new electronic receivers every day.
