Technology Projects

from Dominic O'Connor's portfolio

The exciting thing about working in software development is that there is a constant stream of new technologies, and you're expected to keep up. Like a restaurant critic, your job is to sample the finest things out there as often as possible. In doing so, you can directly enhance your company's offerings, expand your own skill set, and share exciting new services and tools with the world. On top of all that you're being paid to practice your hobby. Who can ask for more than that?

    My Blog

I've recently started a Coldfusion blog, where I plan to share tips and tricks I come across in my work with ColdFusion, MySQL, and the myriad of other technologies I use.Visit Website go

    Google Maps API

One of my more challenging projects was integrating Inside Higher Ed's job search website with Google Maps. Because many academics are married to academics, finding jobs in the same location and matching each partner's field can be difficult. With the Dual Career Search, job seekers can enter the search criteria for each person and then view a map of all the matching jobs. Each job search is color coded, and the map pushpins that are both orange and green represent single institutions that have jobs matching both searches.

    Fax2Sig

The project on which I cut my web developer teeth was Interfolio's Fax2Sig service. Our users can download a customized PDF form, sign it, and fax it back. We then automatically find the signature box within the fax, read the barcode, and put the signature into the appropriate account. It was the very first ColdFusion project I worked on, and although I've made some minor upgrades, it's by and large running on the same code that I wrote almost 6 years ago.
