These are representative samples of comments from students and colleagues. I am happy to furnish search committees with more detailed information (including complete sets of evaluations), as well as teaching-focused letters of recommendation.

Student Evaluations - St. Norbert College

    Students in Introduction to Theology:

When I first take a look at this course and think about what I have learned, it doesn't seem like much. But when I go to apply it to other things, it's like...wow...look at HOW much I HAVE learned!

It gave me the chance to think outside of the box. It pushed me to try to understand things that are near impossible to understand.

Professor Stamper treats her students with utmost respect and professionality, and [expects] the same. With that said, she still has fun with the subject...

This course's best feature was Professor Stamper....she inspired me and allowed me to make myself a better person in and outside the classroom. She's made a difference for me in my freshman year, and lit a fire in me that now burns to consume all knowledge. [and Professor Stamper would add that apparently I did not do enough to discourage hyperbole.]

Students in Judaism and Christianity: The Holocaust

Really liked the community feel to the classroom, the projects and options of doing creative assignments.

I LOVE SALLY STAMPER! This class...was way better than I expected....[It] is really great and unconventional and so is Dr. Stamper.

Even though it is the instructor's first year, she fits in perfectly with the rest of the SNC staff.

I loved Professor's Stamper's teaching method, the best religion professor I have had within my college career.

... The [weekly] papers encouraged me to to do my assigned readings and to gain a deeper understanding for the material, instead of just reading the words and taking a quiz or test.

Notes from Colleagues and Students - Lake Forest College

... last May, we invited graduating seniors to identify members of the College's faculty or staff who had made the most positive impact on them during their years on campus. I am very pleased to tell you that you were one of the individuals named by students in this process. Congratulations, and many thanks for everything you have done and continue to do for our students. They and the College are in your debt. - Steve Schutt, President, Lake Forest College (2009 and 2010)

You are doing great work by my advisees.... You have struck a great balance between consequences and opportunities. Keep it up. - faculty colleague (11/09)

You've done great work connecting with several of my students.... Thank you for your efforts on behalf of our students. - faculty colleague (12/09)

I definitely will be taking more philosophy courses. - student (Philosophy and Gender, 12/09)

Student Evaluations - Lake Forest College

At first, I was confused about Prof. Stamper's teaching method. But I soon realized that it was because I hadn't been taught w/ such high quality & understanding in a long time. I really enjoyed this course because I was forced to think in different ways. (12/08)

...very organized and efficient...very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material...also understanding, helpful, and considerate. (12/09)

...by far the best teacher I have had at Lake Forest. She created each class into a thought provoking discussion and truly cared about all of her students. ...The course was filled with so much substance.... I wish there were more classes like this one at LFC. (5/09)

[Her] teaching strategies are very unique...very knowledgeable...a great perspective on religion...very fair in her grading... (5/09)

...not afraid to try new things in her classes. This makes for interesting class every day...very positive and receptive to her students. She is very easy to talk to and doesn't stop being a mentor once class is over. (12/09)

...one of the best teachers I have had at LFC. I would get excited to come to class every day. ...Her encouragement made me want to do better. (12/09)

...an excellent teacher. She kept my attention throughout the whole semester.... This course was my favorite out of all my courses.... (12/09)

Student Evaluations - University of Chicago

Students in Human Being and Citizen I, 12/09:

Professor Stamper is amazing! She`s very enthusiastic, knowledgable, funny, and puts a LOT of emphasis on students being able to form their own opinions. She does so in a manner that promotes a balance between giving her own insight, and then allowing kids to share theirs. She made every student`s opinion matter in some way, and if it wasn`t necessarily thought out well, she would flush it out. However, discussion sometimes did get a little off topic because she entertained every opinion. But it was in no way an annoyance.

Ms. Stamper was always very enthusiastic in lessons, and in consequence, so were we. A fact that really elevated our level of discussions in class.

STRENGTHS: She was always very friendly, understanding, approachable, fun, engaging, and organized. Also, I was amazed at how committed she was with our class; she would even find time after class for fun activities, such as watching a movie or drinking tea in class. WEAKNESSES: Can`t really think of any serious weaknesses.

Very productive. Ms. Stamper always kept us on track, and when the discussion would die out a little, she would always get us going again with an interesting comment. In terms of technical aspects, [this course] has improved my writing skills immensely. Also, it has made me more comfortable with expressing my own opinions and interpretations of a text. In other aspects, it has restored my interest for literature to the extent that I am actually considering taking other literature courses.

Student Evaluations - Midland Lutheran College

Development of Christian Thought (online) - 8/09:

Was online more than any other professor has been, email were always responded to the same day and was always available during office hours chat twice a week.

There was great variety of teaching methods...

Written lectures and forums were awesome.

She knows her stuff, is willing to work with students, is flexible and offers many solutions to problems.

She puts her heart into her work. She helps you learn and guides you plus pushes you to be better, and cares about your learning process.
