Frequently Asked Questions About Interfolio

Ask a Question

If our institution adopts Interfolio, who will we work with?

During the implementation period, your institution will have a dedicated Project Manager from Interfolio who will work with your offices and staff to get you up and running. During and after implementation, your institution will have an Account Manager from Interfolio who serves as your main point of contact. They will consult with you to learn your administrative process, understand your particular needs, and connect you with the right support at Interfolio to provide the greatest benefit to your institution.

How much support do you offer otherwise? Do you take questions from candidates, committee members, letter writers, and staff?

Definitely. Anyone who has questions about an Interfolio product can contact our Scholar Services support team Monday through Friday:

  • By telephone at 877-997-8807 from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time
  • By email at help@interfolio.com, monitored 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time

Inevitably, some strategic questions about Interfolio will be best directed by your school’s Account Manager, who better understands the ins and outs of your institution.

Interfolio’s products sound useful, but we already have systems on campus that store data relevant to faculty hiring, research, activity reporting, and/or promotion. Can you integrate with those systems?

Yes, almost certainly. In most cases, we can work with your IT team to enable data to pass automatically between our platform and other technologies commonly involved in faculty hiring and promotion—such as personnel databases, job boards, or human resources systems that “know” when a faculty member is eligible for promotion. Of course, the ease and scope of the integration depends on your specific needs. We would be happy to answer any additional integration questions you have. Contact us for more information on integrations.

Do you offer single sign-on (SSO), so our users can get into Interfolio with their existing campus username and password?

Yes—we actually encourage SSO for most client institutions. Ask us about it.

Our institution definitely wants one Interfolio module (e.g. either Review, Promotion & Tenure or Faculty Search), but we haven’t decided yet about the other. Can we adopt just one?

Yes! We want to be as helpful as we can to your current faculty decision processes.  Tell us what you’re hoping to accomplish.

If an individual has access to more than one Interfolio product at once using the same account, how does that work? Can an administrator at my school access the contents of my personal Dossier account?

Smart question! No. Your data is your data, and is separate from your participation in institutional processes involving your colleagues. While you might have access to multiple Interfolio products from a single personal account, we carefully separate it out by institution, module, and product.

Got questions about the specifics? Happy to talk through scenarios. Get in touch.

What steps does Interfolio take to keep client data secure?

All users are authenticated via either Interfolio’s username and password authentication or via SSO with their institution’s Identity Provider.

At the server level, all administrative access is protected via multi-factor authentication. All traffic between Interfolio servers and the public internet is forced over HTTPS. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Interfolio servers run in a virtual private cloud. All web, application, and database servers are separated from the public Internet and have no public IP address. Private IP addresses are never disclosed to the Internet.

That’s the short story. Need to know more details? Drop us a line.
