Higher education Information Technology (IT) administrators attending EDUCAUSE 2014 shared best practices used at their schools to enhance collaboration between IT and faculty.

The implicit goals of these practices are to enhance communication and the quality of IT decisions.  Practices shared include:

  • using faculty members to test cutting-edge solutions before rolling them out to higher levels.
  • placing IT personnel in academic departments to promote communication and exchanging of ideas.
  • creating a paid “digital faculty fellow” to serve as a bridge between faculty and IT.
  • involving faculty directly in IT decisions to enhance faculty buy-in once a decision is made.
