Virtual Summit

Celebrating Faculty Impact

Provosts, deans, and faculty affairs leaders are coming together this June to discuss the current state of higher education and the pivotal role of the Faculty Information System for the academy going forward.

In sessions throughout this free 2-day event, we’ll hear all about celebrating faculty impact—and how the unique Interfolio platform is facilitating that impact at universities of all kinds.

What is the Interfolio Virtual Summit?

Experts on faculty careers will join academic and technology leaders from Interfolio partner universities to discuss pressing issues facing the faculty affairs profession and the most successful ways to manage them, including critical ways the Interfolio platform is helping.

In addition, the Interfolio Virtual Summit offers a chance for professionals at higher education institutions who work with faculty to engage with the widely experienced Interfolio team, understand Interfolio’s ongoing and planned areas of innovation, and learn from our experience working with over 400 institutions and organizations worldwide.

The Interfolio Virtual Summit is free to attend.

What sessions are planned?

The full agenda will launch later this spring.

Who should attend?

  • Senior academic leadership invested in their faculty members’ capacity for impact—including provosts, faculty affairs heads, deans of colleges, and other executive roles intersecting with faculty—whether your institution already uses Interfolio or not
  • Current Interfolio institutional administrators who wish to find new ideas and solutions to the modern issues of faculty management (and administrative effectiveness) using Interfolio modules
  • Other higher education professionals focused on driving faculty impact and improving the faculty work experience—whether you are in HR, IT, research, libraries, or some other office

Private university in New England leverages Interfolio module for staff recruitment

West Haven, Connecticut — November 9, 2021 — The University of New Haven announced today that it has expanded its use of the Faculty Search module offered by Interfolio, creator of the Faculty Information System.

After using the Faculty Search module to improve its faculty hiring process, the university now will use the module for staff recruitment as well, thereby making that process easier and more effective.

The university previously had a manual process for staff recruitment. Now, relying on Faculty Search for staff hiring, the university gains several advantages:

  • Easy digital review of applications from anywhere;
  • Automated routing of confidential recommendation letters; and
  • Applicant pool management tools built for higher ed.

“We were looking for an improvement to our  digital process for staff hiring,” says Iris Calovine, the University’s Executive Director of Human Resources. “We are hopeful that the use of Interfolio will enable the university to easily and more efficiently carry out staff recruitment.”

The Faculty Search module also enables administrators to build demographic data questionnaires into applications to yield a 100% response rate.

“Faculty and staff diversity is a significant institutional advantage with multiple benefits, including improved classroom discussions and better preparation of students for our global society,” says Andrew Rosen, CEO of Interfolio. “That’s why it’s critical for institutions to collect sufficient demographic data to intentionally grow their faculty and staff diversity.”

On-Demand: Virtual Roundtable: Driving Faculty and Institutional Success

The last 18 months have created unique difficulties for every industry—and higher education is no exception. Ongoing change is inevitable, and supporting faculty is even more crucial now. Indeed, faculty are at the crux of institutional success, impacting governance, cost, revenue, student success, inclusion, and rank.

So how can you best support their growth and development?

Listen to the conversation with faculty affairs leaders who are using the Faculty Information System to not only make hiring, advancement, and activity reporting simpler, administratively, for their faculty—but also to make a real impact on a faculty member’s career progression.

With additional visibility into the data and their faculty, universities can explore:

  • Is there an equitable service workload across faculty?
  • How to address advancement with regards to research and tenure pauses, especially with the disproportionate effect on women, caretakers, and BIPOC faculty.
  • What are trends in promotions and advancement, and how can mentoring or additional interventions support early career faculty?
  • How to showcase a range of faculty and their research in press and promotional materials.

We gathered for an interactive conversation to hear how the Interfolio platform provides administrators and department chairs data and visibility to support scholars across their career journey.

Advancing Equity in Higher Education STEM

Dr. Ebony O. McGee, Associate Professor of Diversity and STEM Education at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, presents “Beyond Recruiting… Retaining Underrepresented Minoritized Faculty & Graduate Students: First Understand the Barriers, then Dismantle Them.”

Her research and work explores “the social, material, and health costs of academic achievement and problematizing traditional forms of success in higher education, with an unapologetic focus on Black folk in these places and spaces.” This free on demand session addresses the important issue of advancing equity in Higher Education STEM. Watch below:

About Dr. Ebony O. McGee, Professor of Diversity and STEM Education

As a professor of diversity and STEM education at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, I investigate what it means to be racially marginalized while minoritized in the context of learning and achieving in STEM higher education and in the STEM professions. I study in particular the racialized experiences and racial stereotypes that adversely affect the education and career trajectories of underrepresented groups of color. This involves exploring the socialmaterial, and healthcosts of academic achievement and problematizing traditional forms of success in higher education, with an unapologetic focus on Black folk in these places and spaces. My National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER grant investigates how marginalization undercuts success in STEM through psychological stress, interrupted STEM career trajectories, impostor phenomenon, and other debilitating race-related trauma for Asian, Black, Indigenous, and Latinx doctoral students.

Education is my second career; I left a career in electrical engineering to earn a PhD in mathematics education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Chicago, and a NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship at Northwestern University. With funding from seven NSF grants, I cofounded the Explorations in Diversifying Engineering Faculty Initiative or EDEFI (pronounced “edify”). I also cofounded the Institute in Critical Quantitative and Mixed Methodologies Training for Underrepresented Scholars (ICQCM), which aims to be a go-to resource for the development of quantitative and mixed-methods skillsets that challenge simplistic quantifications of race and marginalization. ICQCM receives support from the NSF, The Spencer Foundation, and the W. T. Grant Foundation.

My first solo-authored book is entitled Black, Brown, Bruised: How Racialized STEM Education Stifles Innovation.

My research has been featured in prominent media outlets, including The Atlantic, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Nature Human Behaviour, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Higher Education Today, NPR’s Codeswitch, The Hechinger Report, Christian Science Monitor, Huffington Post, US News & World Report, Inside Higher Education, Tennessean, Washington Monthly, and The UK Voice Online.
